Solar powered garden, yard and flood lights have come a long way in the past couple of years. They now are sold in an amazing array of styles and price levels. The cheaper ones can be purchased sometimes for less than a dollar on sale! If you want the most out of then, pay enough to get the better ones. Here are some things to look for.
Here is a picture of a couple styles that I currently use.

Just shove the stake in the ground, turn the switch on and put the unit on the stake. The batteries will charge during the day. In the evening, take the unit inside and turn off the switch. Turn it on when you need light. There is no wiring to install. If you just want night lights, get the cheaper units. They are not nearly as bright. You can rig up wall sconces easily to hold the lights. The floodlights throw out enough light for all but the most demanding tasks.
